The Cornish Retribution by Amanda James @Bloodhoundbook #bookreview

Happy Tuesday book friends!

Busy day on the blog today! This is my last post another fabulous blog tour for this twisty read! A huge thank you to Emma for my invitation!💕

John Nicholl - White is the Coldest Color_korica probaAfter a tragic car accident, Samantha is left widowed and bereft.  Her husband Adam was everything to her. But at least the home they shared together in Cornwall provides her with some security. Or does it?

Upon returning from a school reunion in Sheffield, where Sam met her old friend, Penny, and an old flame from her school days, Dan, she discovers that Adam had invested money unwisely and she is now penniless.

When Penny and Dan, who are now married, arrive in Cornwall to visit Sam, Dan comes up with a way in which Sam can keep the house. He suggests she turns it into a writing retreat. And he is willing to invest.

Despite his wife’s reservations, Dan gets his way but at what price?

Why is Dan so keen to help? Has Sam put herself in harm’s way?

Some relationships are built to last. Others are deadly.

My Thoughts

This book was a wild and crazy ride straight into crazy town!

When I finish this book all I could think was what the….. did I just read??? This book reached in to my mind and turned it inside out, and I’m not sure if it is the right way quite yet…. this will be a vague review, because I don’t want to spoil a single moment of it for you…. A book that just confirms the fact that you can, hate. every. single. character. in a book and still like the book….

Sam has lost her husband Adam to a freak accident involving cattle… soon after her husband dies she returns home to attend a class reunion and that is where she reunites with Penny and Dan… Dan ex-boyfriend and Penny ex best friend are now a married couple and have decided to move to Cornwall with Sam… at first I had a tremendous amount of sympathy for Sam and I thought she was being duped and then she turned into a woman possessed…. three unlikable characters doing dastardly things bordering on the line of insanity…. are Sam, Dan, and Penny collectively nuts? Why are they doing such bizarre and hateful things? Who’s duping who?

A beautiful setting with so much ugliness going on… this is the type of book that has you turning those pages into the middle of the night, because you just need to know! Absolutely recommend if you are a fan of a good twisty story!

*** A huge thanks to the author and the publisher for my copy of this book ***

Amanda has written since she was a child, but never imagined that her words would be published, given that she left school with no real qualifications of note apart from an A* in how to be a nuisance in class. Nevertheless, she returned to education when her daughter was five and eventually became a history teacher. Then in 2010, after many twists and turns, the dream of becoming a writer came true when her first short story was published. Amanda has written many short stories and has six novels currently published.

Amanda grew up in Sheffield but now has realised her lifelong dream of living in Cornwall and her writing is inspired every day by the dramatic coastline near her home. She has sketched out many stories in her head while walking the cliff paths. Four of her mystery/suspense novels are set there, Somewhere Beyond the Sea, Summer in Tintagel, Behind the Lie and Rip Current. The Cornish Retribution is also set in Cornwall and will be published by Bloodhound Books in October 2018.

Amanda, known to many as Mandy, spends far more time than is good for her on social media and has turned procrastination to a fine art. She can also usually be found playing on the beach with her family, or walking the cliff paths planning her next book.

Friendship Never Ends by Ella Dyson @edwarddyson205 #BlogTour #BookReview @orionbooks @Tr4cyF3nt0n

I’m super happy to bring you this little fun read.

Many thanks to Tracy Fenton from TBC (THE Book Club on FB) and Orion Books for including us in the tour.

Three troubled women – and one man who lives for drama – haven’t spoken to their old high school best friend in 20 years, after an epic talent show disaster tore them apart during the height of Spice-mania in 1998.

Self-appointed gang leader Carmen then decided to go it alone – Geri style. But now, in 2018, Carmen’s high school reunion is fast approaching. Friendship Never Ends tells the story of Carmen’s plan to win back her former besties – Jemma, Ellie, Laura and Benny – ahead of the big night. But has Carmen really changed? And can their friendship ever really go back to how it was?

My Thoughts

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Friendship Stars

I really enjoyed this book, it made me glad that there wasn’t something like Facebook to capture all of my stupid moments from years ago!

Facebook is really a marvellous thing if it is used for its actual purpose, it allows you to get back in touch with those people you haven’t seen for years, and also allows you to stalk old boyfriends (don’t say you haven’t all done it!)

This story jumps from NOW to THEN and back to NOW and sees 5 friends growing up together in the 90’s and getting back in touch 20 years later.

Back in the 90’s The Girls or “Huddies” were all HUGE Spice Girls fans, they knew all of the songs, knew the dance moves, and every lyric and fun fact about all of the band members.

Carmen was (or liked to think she was) the head of the gang, in all honesty she was a bit of a cow, she shot down, fat shamed, slut shamed and every other shamed, just to make herself look better than everyone else, her stories were always waaaay more important than the other girls, and woe betide any one that tried to interrupt her!

After deciding to enter into the school talent contest, “The Spice Rack” are born and practising takes place under Carmen’s watchful eye.

Fast forward to 20 years later and Carmen is living the high life, or that’s how she is perceiving her life to be on Facebook, her account is full of fabulous pictures and places she has gone to, the reality however is far from Facebook heaven.

She tracks down all of the girls from years ago, and is sad to find out that they all stayed in touch and are still friends, Carmen manages to convince the girls that they should relive the past and re-enter the Talent contest again at their high school reunion, much to everyone’s dismay.

This story  had some laugh out loud moments and also some that made me cringe, it was lovely seeing some of the things that I used to do like watch Top of the Pops, and snacks I used to eat, remember Space Raiders anyone?

Chapters are from all of the different girls perspective, so you find out all of their secrets …and lies!

A fun filled story that will bring out the inner Girl Power in you.

  • The only thing negative that I can say about the book is that anyone that is not from the UK may have a hard time reading this, it does have a lot of jargon and slang words specifically used in the UK and some of our overseas friends may find this a little difficult to decipher.

Hope your week is Zig-a-zigah !

Book Perfection💕The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain @StMartinsPress #6bookbestiesdreamdaughter #6bookbestiesapproved #bookreview #pubday

Happy Tuesday book lovers!

Excited to share with you today my review for one of my favorite reads of the year so far! Also another read with my BOOK BESTIES!!!💕💕

The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain

My Thoughts

A captivating exquisitely told story about the power of a mother’s love💕

WOW! WOW! WOW! This was simply book perfection! It already has a spot on my “Fave“ shelf! As well as a spot in my heart! The thing I am most proud of in my life is being a mom; and the three people I love the most in my life are my three amazing children! And even though they are pretty much all grown up now I would do anything to protect any of them! So of course I could not help but put myself in Carly‘s position in this book, to what Lankes is a mother willing to go for her child? Would you be able to face the unknowable? Believe the unbelievable? Take that leap of faith?

If you have not read this book yet, I am so jealous! You have such an amazing treat ahead of you… it is 1970… Carly has just lost her husband to the Vietnam war, and now she has found out that her unborn baby has an inoperable heart defect…. Hunter her sister’s husband, who seems to know the words to the Beatles songs before they have come out, and is also a physicist tells Carly there might be a way to save her baby…. BUT it will require her to believe the unbelievable and have faith and take a huge leap, quite literally…. you see Hunter is from the future he knows how to time travel and he can send Carly to the year 2001 where it is possible to operate on her babies heart… Time traveling? What? Who is the author again? DON’T panic! Trust me! It SO works! Shoot by the end of this book I was almost believing I could travel back in time myself!

Even though the time traveling aspect of this book was interesting and a little stressful… just imagine how much the world change between 1970 and 2001, microwave ovens, cell phones, Internet, the list goes on and on and on… this really is a book all about love, and hope, and sacrifice…. A beautiful heartwarming story with some time travel peppered in…

This is a genre defying, Decade spanning, story filled with all the components you want in a book… A perfectly pased and compelling storyline, relatable and captivating characters, and all the feels! This book truly surpassed my expectations and I probably could go on and on and on, but I will save you that! Strongly encourage you to add this book to your TBR ASAP! It will bring tears to your eyes, a big smile to your face, but most of all it will leave a warmth in your heart!

*** A huge thank you to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

From bestselling author Diane Chamberlain comes an irresistible new novel.

When Caroline Sears receives the news that her unborn baby girl has a heart defect, she is devastated. It is 1970 and there seems to be little that can be done. But her brother-in-law, a physicist, tells her that perhaps there is. Hunter appeared in their lives just a few years before—and his appearance was as mysterious as his past. With no family, no friends, and a background shrouded in secrets, Hunter embraced the Sears family and never looked back.

Now, Hunter is telling her that something can be done about her baby’s heart. Something that will shatter every preconceived notion that Caroline has. Something that will require a kind of strength and courage that Caroline never knew existed. Something that will mean a mind-bending leap of faith on Caroline’s part.

And all for the love of her unborn child.

A rich, genre-spanning, breathtaking novel about one mother’s quest to save her child, unite her family, and believe in the unbelievable. Diane Chamberlain pushes the boundaries of faith and science to deliver a novel that you will never forget.

Christmas on Lily Pond Lane by Emily Harvale @emilyharvale @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Tuesday all!

This is my first of many Christmas blog tours, I love the festive holiday season! Thank you so much to Rachel for my invitation and Emily Harvale for her delightful story!🧝🏻‍♀️

Christmas on Lily Pond Lane

Lily Pond Lane CHRISTMAS-VAL-DAVID-1 AUG-2 ##FINAL##Snow is falling in Little Pondale, lights are twinkling and the smell of pine trees and roasting chestnuts fills the air …

But Mia Ward is in a bit of a jam. She’d planned to rent out Corner Cottage for Christmas but thanks to best friend, Ella Swann, it’s double-booked. Now Mia’s got to let one ‘party’ down, or find another cottage – fast.

Best friends and single mums, Cathy Cole and Christy Franks want their kids to have an old-fashioned Christmas. Ice-skating, carol singing, making decorations, and tobogganing are on their list of festive fun and Little Pondale is the perfect place. Especially as it has no mobile phone reception. That will make it harder for Cathy to be found.

City banker, Leo Hardman is wondering if renting a cottage for Christmas as an anniversary surprise for his parents, was such a good idea. Little Pondale may be where his parents met, but his mum doesn’t seem pleased to be back, and his brother, Hal isn’t happy that the village is so tiny and only has one pub.

Meanwhile, Jenny Lake is settling in at her cousin’s bakery, having left her (broken) heart in Florence, but Christmas was never her favourite time of year. And Reverend Glen Fox has taken over at St Michael and All Angels. He’s glad it’s a temporary post because village life is not for him.

But luckily, for locals and visitors alike, there’s a sleigh-load of Christmas magic heading for Lily Pond Lane; enough to put a sparkle in everyone’s festive season. Although Christmas may not go quite as each of them has planned.

My Thoughts

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas🎄

Even though today was the first day of October and it was 90°F this book sure Did put me in the Christmas mood! This is a story about what happens after the Lily Pond serial and can be read as a standalone… BUT I strongly encourage you to read the previous books they are simply brilliant and so much fun!

This book is The perfect star on top of the Christmas tree, the perfect bow on the present, the perfect Rudolph to your Christmas sleigh…. it was so much fun returning to Little Pondale, and getting reacquainted with Mia and Ella… The girls appear to have found the loves of their lives, and they also have quite the love of Christmas… I could not help but smile at the amount of Christmas decorating… there were inflated snowman, sparkly giant candycanes, lights for miles, and perhaps maybe a live reindeer or two… there is Christmas caroling, Christmas goodies, this book just left me feeling extremely festive and jolly!

All my old favorites were in the story with some newcomers as well…. this was a story about romance and love with Mia playing the part of matchmaker, and putting that mistletoe to good use! Just as in the previous books I was never quite sure who was going to end up with who, but I was very satisfied with the outcome… this is also a story about friendship, I love the friendship between Mia and Ella and the friendship that they have developed with the villagers… hard to believe it has been a year since these girls traveled into this village thinking there was no way they could ever have made this their home!

Absolutely recommend if you love love, if you love Christmas, if you love a feel-good story with a tremendous heart!
