About the Book

The moment she opened her eyes, she knew everything had changed. The stale taste of alcohol; her uneasy stomach. She looked at her husband sleeping peacefully, and knew she would never tell anyone what happened last night.

You will think you know what happened to Alicia that night.

You will see a desperate wife, lying to her husband.

You will watch a charming lover, trying to win her back.

You will judge her, just like everyone else.

You will assume you know what happens next. But everything you think you know about the past, the relationships, what drives Alicia and her husband to lie… is wrong.

If you loved The Girl on the Train, The Wife Between Us and The Sister, you’ll love this compelling and gripping psychological thriller from Sheryl Browne. The Affairwill have you hooked from the very first page!

My Thoughts

4 Deceitful Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

“ oh! What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.“

My oh my did Alicia get herself tangled up in quite the sticky web… this was such an emotional thought-provoking book…. if I were going to label it I would probably call it more of a domestic thriller than a psychological thriller… from the title I am sure you can infer there is an affair… The fallout from this indiscretion is widespread with many casualties…. lies always seem to lead to more lies… digging the liar into a deeper and deeper hole, and leaving their loved ones the innocent victims reeling… but who is the biggest liar of them all???

This book was almost a mash up of women’s fiction and a thriller… The first 27% of this book was emotional, raw, and impactful… *have tissue handy* it was so heartwrenching, and there is a character in this book that my heart broke for more than any other… you will know who I’m talking about when you have finished this book… there is a small cast of characters in the book allowing us to really get to know each of them… I also believe we get the perspective of all of them with the exception of maybe one of them? Or perhaps there is a small chapter with his perspective? All of the characters were so well developed with their own unique voice… I felt for them, I cried for them, I judged them, and I forgave them… well not all of them!

The last 50% of this book was more thriller… Full of twists and turns and reveals and that sense of urgency… I still found myself wondering what I would do in this situation? and questioning some of the characters actions… I think this book was a really good example of what people wil do when pushed to their limits…. leaving me to question what my own breaking point would be…

Strongly recommend if you enjoy a well done thought provoking thriller…

Sheryl Browne brings you powerful psychological thriller and contemporary fiction. Sheryl’s latest psychological thriller THE AFFAIR – the second of a three-book deal – comes to you from fabulous BOOKOUTURE. A member of the Crime Writers’ Association and the Romantic Novelists’ Association, and previously writing for award winning Choc Lit, Sheryl has several books published and two short stories in Birmingham City University anthologies, where she completed her MA in Creative Writing.

So why does Sheryl write in two genres? Quoting E. L. Doctorow, Sheryl says: “Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights…” This she thinks sums up a writer’s journey, you never quite know where you are going until you get there. You might start with an outline, but a strong character will always divert from the plot. If Sheryl’s not sure where a character is going, she simply has to trust him to show her the way. Plus, according to one reviewer, she also has a scary insight into the mind of a psychopath.

The Theatre of Dreams by Rosie Travers @RosieTravers @rararesources #BookReview

Happy Saturday book lovers!

Delighted to be part of the blog tour for this wonderful debut! Many thanks Rachel for the invitation and to Rosie Travers for her delightful story💕

The Theatre of Dreams Take 2The Theatre of Dreams

Musical theatre actress Tara is down on her luck and in desperate need of a job.

When terminally-ill octogenarian Kitty invites her to take over the running of her former dance academy in the old-fashioned resort of Hookes Bay, Tara thinks she’s found her guardian angel.

But it soon becomes very clear Kitty is being far from benevolent.

Too late, Tara realises helping Kitty will signal the end of an already tarnished career, unless she can pull off the performance of a life-time…

My Thoughts

4 Fabulous Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a delightful debut, filled with engaging characters and set in a charming seaside village…. this book really was a true pleasure to read from first page to last…. I found myself so thoroughly invested in the lives of both Tara and Kitty… I was sad to say goodbye to these two ladies when the book ended….

Tara is a musical theater actor who finds herself in the midst of a scandal… wanting to escape the fallout a job as a dance instructor in a quiet seaside town sounds perfect….Kitty May appear to be Tara’s salvation, but things are not always as they seem… and Kitty has ulterior motives….

Told from alternating points of view, with more emphasis put on Tara’s perspective then kittys’…. both these women were very strong, determined, and extremely well developed characters…. they both had their eye on the prize and played their cards close to the vest… Tara out of necessity and Kitty out of strategy… I loved the dynamics between these two! I challenge anyone to read this book and not become completely enthralled with these characters… The character development in this book was just simply stellar!

A book filled with twists, second chances, friendship, nostalgia, charm, and a splash of romance… absolutely recommend to anyone who is a fan of women’s fiction with some interesting plot twists…

063Author Bio –  I like to  write stories with a twist, a sprinkling of humour and a dash of tragedy.  My aim is to entertain and raise a smile.

I’ve always had a very vivid imagination and my passion for writing began at a very early age.  As a teenager I scribbled, then typed, numerous novels and short stories, none of which I was ever brave enough to show to anyone. My hobby was put on hold while mortgages, marriage, and motherhood took over. In fact, it stayed hidden for a good twenty or so years until I unexpectedly found myself with some spare time on my hands. In 2009 I left the UK to accompany my husband on an overseas work assignment to California. I started a blog about my life in the US, and from there everything mushroomed. I re-discovered my creative juices.  I am a member of the Romantic Novelists Association New Writers Scheme and Hampshire Writers Society. I now live on the south coast of England with my husband and a very spoilt cat.

The Theatre of Dreams is my first novel

The Last Lie She Told by Kathleen McGillick @KJMcGillick @rararesources #BookReview

Yay it is Saturday!

Excited to be on the blog tour for this thrilling book! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation and to Kathleen Mc Gillick for this page turner💛

The Last Lie ToldThe Last Lie She Told

Lies and misdirection rule the game.

To some, Fiona O’Dell is clever and manipulative. To others, she is a dangerous sociopath. One thing is certain – she’s trouble wherever she goes. Now she has vanished from her job, but not before being seen leaving a motel room where one man is found dead, another on the edge of death. Is this grizzly crime scene a BDSM encounter gone wrong? Or is it related to a company data breach where all three are employed?

Private security expert Lee Stone and NYPD Detective Belle Hughes are assigned to the case. In a race to find Fiona, they track her across four states and shocked to find men from her past are being murdered. With little information and even less evidence, each new crime scene brings more questions than answers.

While secrets are revealed, there is only one conclusion: Fiona controls the game, the players, even the course of the investigation. The danger escalates, and the game must be mastered, or all fall victim to it. As Lee and Belle struggle to put all the pieces together, the two investigators find their relationship heats up as they are drawn to each other. Looking for a murder mystery with a feisty female detective that’s filled with twists and turns? Explore The Last Lie She Told for a thrill ride that leaves you guessing until the end.

My Thoughts

4 Gripping Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a compulsive read filled with many twists and turns… I am always a sucker for a book with multiple points of view…. in this book we get three points of view… allowing us to see the complete picture. and enabling us to draw our own conclusions…. I always think this is such an impactful way to tell a story… I also like getting in the minds of more than just one character….

Who? what? where? why? These are all questions I was asking myself throughout this entire story…. and once again my amateur detective skills failed, miserably! This really is the story of Fiona, Lee, and Bell…. The hot mess, the has been, and the fighter… probably not a fair assessment of Lee, I actually really did like him as well as Bell…. and Fiona??? Well let’s just say the jury’s still out…. from what I gather some characters from a previous series are woven into this book, but you really don’t miss anything by not having read this author’s previous series…. however, after you finish this book you will be itching to read the next book in the series… it does end on a bit of a cliffy… maybe, there are a few questions left unanswered in the end, is a better way to phrase it? Either way you’ll be wanting that next book ASAP

Recommend if you enjoy crime thrillers with well-developed characters…
