The Letter - Kitty's Story

The Letter – Kitty’s Story

Thirty-four-year-old Kitty Bennett is trapped in a loveless marriage to criminal barrister, Dan, who’s gradually isolated her from her family and friends. Until the day she (literally) bumps into her first love, the handsome and easy-going Ollie Cartwright – someone she’s done her best to avoid for as long as she can remember. Looking into Ollie’s eyes awakens feelings for him she thought she’d buried deep years ago, and he clearly feels the spark, too. As she walks away, Kitty can’t help but wonder what might have been…

Dan senses that his marriage is on shaky ground and knows he needs to win his wife round. He turns on the charm, skilfully using their two children, Lucas and Lily, as bargaining tools. But Kitty’s older brother, Jimby, and her childhood best-friends, Molly and Violet, have decided enough is enough. For years they’ve had to watch from afar as Kitty’s been browbeaten into an unrecognisable version of herself. They vow to make her see Dan for what he really is, but their attempts are no match for his finely-honed courtroom skills and, against her better judgement, Kitty agrees to give her husband one last chance. But, all-too-soon, a series of heart-breaking events and a shocking secret throw her life into turmoil…

Will she stand by Dan, or will Kitty be brave enough to take the leap and follow her heart to Ollie?

Life is anything but peaceful in the chocolate-box pretty village of Lytell Stangdale, where life unravels, and hearts are broken. Full of heart-warming moments, this book with have you crying tears of joy, laughter and sadness.

My Thoughts

4 Second Chance Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was such a lovely story a lighthearted look at some pretty heavy subject matter… before we get to the book I want to assert my own opinion… as someone who was in a toxic marriage for many years and dealt with a lot of The same issues that Kitty did…. not sure if getting into another romantic relationship straight away is the best idea? Sometimes you need to take a little time for yourself and your children, because they were in that toxic relationship as well… but this is fiction and we all love a happy ending and Ollie was pretty darn hard to resist!

Kitty loved her! I found her so real and relatable a girl I’d love to swap stories with! Trapped in a bad marriage to Dan who finally wakes up and decides he wants to fight for his wife…. but even his attempt to save the marriage was filled with manipulative actions ugh… thank goodness Kitty had a wonderful brother and some pretty spectacular friends in Molly and Violet…

I thought Kitty’s story was told amazingly well! The only problem I had with this book was so many secondary stories going on… from what I gather this is The first book in a small town romance series… so I am sure the author was trying to set up future books, however in doing so I think it created some unnecessary parts in this book…. having said that I’m really looking forward to future books in the series… I am a small town romance fan!

Absolutely recommend to fans of small town second chance love stories!💕

The Photograph by Debbie Rix @debbierix @bookouture #BookReview #BlogBlitz

Happy Friday book lovers! Thrilled to be part of the blog blitz for this captivating book! Many thanks to Kim for my invitation and to Debbie Rix for her stunning words💜

If you loved The Letter by Kathryn Hughes and The Hourglass by Tracy Rees you’ll be swept away by this stunning summer read.

Italy, 1958: Rachael is a young widow with a small child. After a lifetime of running for survival, of not knowing who to trust and where to call home, she finds herself in a place of safety. On a sun-drenched Italian island for one carefree summer the troubles of her past fade away and she falls in love. But will Rachael’s new-found happiness bring her further heartache?

England, 2017: Sophie has a handsome husband, a gorgeous house in the English countryside and a successful career as an anthropologist. But the one thing she longs for is a baby of her own. As she struggles to conceive, cracks begin to appear in her marriage. So Sophie throws herself into her work and tries to seek comfort in childhood memories of her beloved grandmother Rachael.

One afternoon, Sophie finds a forgotten letter and an exquisite silk bracelet hidden in Rachael’s old writing desk. Intrigued, she begins to unravel the extraordinary story of her grandmother’s past – and a secret that has the power to change everything…

The Photograph is an utterly beautiful and compelling story of love, loss and a family secret spanning generations.

My Thoughts

4 Compelling Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I am not always a huge fan when it comes to historical fiction, but I do love when it is blended with the contemporary… perhaps I am tricking my brain into thinking I am not reading historical fiction??? The irony of this is I usually find the historical part of these books so compelling and interesting, and then that begs the question why don’t I read more historical fiction? And the answer is I have no idea! This book was no exception I found Rachel’s story so riveting and I learned about a time and place I had no knowledge of before… that is part of the beauty of books exposure to things you would not otherwise be exposed to…. I have learned so much from being an avid reader and most of it by accident….

This is the story of two incredibly strong women… Sophie in 2017… and her grandmother Rachel in the 1950s…. I found both stories equally compelling and they both tugged at my heart strings… Sophie’s struggle and desire to have a baby, and having to deal with a less than supportive husband was very relatable to me…. Rachel’s needing to flee the only place she knew a place she loved was so heart wrenching… these two stories were woven together so seamlessly with a silk bracelet….

Just the perfect blend of the past and the present, with a fair dose of mystery that kept me turning the pages quickly….. this book Will appeal to so many… strongly encourage you to give this one a try whether you are a fan of historical fiction or not!

TGIF! Delighted to be part of the blog tour for this charming book! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation and to Lorraine Wilson for her fabulous book!😍

Poppy's Place In The SunPoppy’s Place in the Sun

‘She had me at Bonjour! Warm, funny, deliciously French…this lovely story filled my heart with sunshine’ Jane Linfoot

Sometimes you need to lose yourself to find your way home…

With only her trusty dogs Peanut, Treacle and Pickwick by her side, Poppy Kirkbride could be forgiven for having doubts about her move to a quiet village in rural France. But as the sun shines down on her ramshackle new home, Poppy knows she’s made the right decision. A lick of paint, and some TLC and her rustic farmhouse will be the perfect holiday retreat – Poppy’s dream come true.

Poppy is welcomed by her fellow villagers, except for brooding local vet Leo Dubois, who makes it clear Poppy isn’t welcome in his village – or his life! Leo might be gorgeous, but Poppy won’t be told what to do by an arrogant Frenchman – no matter how kind and gentle he is to her dogs!

Determined to stay, Poppy tries to understand the enigmatic Frenchman better. But as the two get closer, Poppy sees another side to Leo – a man with heartbreak of his own. Falling in love with Leo is easy, but can he ever return Poppy’s love? And what would this mean for her dream life and place in the sun?

My Thoughts

4.5 Beau Ou Belle Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Fantastic book filled with the French countryside, French food, French friends, and fabulous dogs… loved spending the day with Poppy in the French sun… another delightful book that allowed me to virtually visit France….J’ai adoré😍

Poppy moves to a charming country village in France to start a new life with her boyfriend… at least that’s what she thinks until boyfriend breaks up with her over text… now Poppy is left to start her new life alone…. well not quite she has a trio of adorable puppies to keep her company…. loved Poppy she was such a wonderful character, I’d love to be friends with her and visit this charming farmhouse… loved the important part the animals played in the story… from Poppy’s three dogs along with many more, soccer playing donkeys, and of course Leo the handsome grumpy vet….

Poppy won over the villagers with her charm and made so many new wonderful quirky friends… Leo took a little more time to warm up to her, but once he did things got hot! Loved the romance between these two… it developed so sweetly… I loved how Leo slowly revealed himself to Poppy… things we’re not always easy between them and some tough decisions had to be made… did they find their HEA? You will need to read this book to find out!

Absolutely recommend to fans of fabulous characters, France, friendship, romance, and Amour💕

Happy Friday y’all! Thrilled to be part of the blog blitz for this dark thriller! Many thanks to Sarah for my invitation and to Amanda James for her thrilling book!🖤

Rip Current

Who can you really trust?

DI Bryony Marshall has been on the tail of Kenny Ransom for two years. He’s involved in prostitution and trafficking, but there’s never been any real proof. To complicate matters further, Bryony’s best friend from childhood is his daughter Imogen.

Bryony worries about admitting the fact that she is trying to put Imogen’s dad away, but unexpectedly, Imogen turns on her father and helps the police. Kenny finds out and swears he’ll get his revenge.

Sick of being in the police force, Bryony visits her mother in Coll and considers starting a new life.

While in Cornwaaves the life of a man caught up in a rip current in the sea.

But who is this stranger? And is Kenny really bent on revenge?

Rip Current explores the relationships between families and friends and asks who can you ever really trust.

My Thoughts

4 Dark Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Rip Current: A strong current flowing outward; presenting a hazard….

This was a dark book with plenty of “currents” pulling people away from what is right… creating many hazards in both Bryony and Imagen’s lives… this was my first book by Amanda James and I was pleasantly surprised by this dark thriller with a nice dose of romance… was not expecting the romance… and I thought it added the perfect balance to this otherwise really dark story… always love the love….

Bryony is a police detective who isn’t quite sure if that is what she wants to do for the rest of her life… Hot on the trail of her childhood BFF Imagen’s father… a despicable man involved in all kinds of horrible things…. loved the complex relationship and situation between these two strong women…. how do you come to terms with your father being a terrible man? And once you do how do you deal with his need for revenge? Parts of this book were so tense and I was furiously turning the pages to figure out what was going to happen next….

Nathan was a bit of a bright spot in the darkness of this book…. Love how Bryony and he met, so appropriate…. A subtle romance that really added some smiles to this book…. please note my romance hating friends, this will not make you roll your eyes I promise! It’s very understated….

Recommend to fans of a dark thriller with a splash of romance💕

amandajamesAuthor Bio:

Amanda has written since she was a child, but never imagined that her words would be published, given that she left school with no real qualifications of note apart from an A* in how to be a nuisance in class. Nevertheless, she returned to education when her daughter was five and eventually became a history teacher. Then in 2010, after many twists and turns, the dream of becoming a writer came true when her first short story was published. Amanda has written many short stories and has six novels currently published.

Amanda grew up in Sheffield but now has realised her lifelong dream of living in Cornwall and her writing is inspired every day by the dramatic coastline near her home. She has sketched out many stories in her head while walking the cliff paths. Three of her mystery/suspense novels are set there, Somewhere Beyond the Sea, Summer in Tintagel and the Behind the Lie. Rip Current is also set in Cornwall and will be published by Bloodhound Books in April 2018.

Amanda, known to many as Mandy, spends far more time than is good for her on social media and has turned procrastination to a fine art. She can also usually be found playing on the beach with her family, or walking the cliff paths planning her next book.
