We are so thrilled to reveal the cover for GETTING SCHOOLED by Emma Chase, a brand new standalone releasing on audible February 27th and everywhere else June 26th!

Head of the class…

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy — he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school…

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she’d prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.

Just like old times…

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled — hard — by love.

-A reclusive rock star going through the motions-

Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn’t been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.

-A vivacious college student embracing life-

When outspoken and fun-loving Casey Caldwell was paired with the famously reserved musician for a friend’s wedding, she was prepared for the worst. What could they possibly have in common? She was a bubbly talker; he was a media-shy loner. His life was filled with music; she couldn’t carry a tune. She’d enjoyed a happy childhood; his was a well-publicized nightmare.

-Their worlds are about to collide-

Despite their obvious differences, Jake and Casey found each other, and her light balanced out his darkness. Would their love be strong enough to survive the weight of his tragic past?

The Girlfriend – New Release Today

The Girlfriend

On Shelves Today January 30, 2018

The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances

4.25 slow burning stars🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

A girl. A boy. His mother. And the lie she’ll wish she’d never told.

The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances is a gripping and chilling debut psychological thriller, based on the fall-out following an unforgiveable lie. It looks at the potentially charged relationship between girlfriend, boyfriend and his mother, which most women can identify with, and locates it in an extreme but believable setting.

Laura has it all. A successful career, a long marriage to a rich husband, and a twenty-three year-old son, Daniel, who is kind, handsome, and talented. Then Daniel meets Cherry. Cherry is young, beautiful and smart but she hasn’t had the same opportunities as Daniel. And she wants Laura’s life.

Cherry comes to the family wide-eyed and wants to be welcomed with open arms, but Laura suspects she’s not all that she seems.

When tragedy strikes, an unforgivable lie is told. It is an act of desperation, but the fall-out will change their lives forever.

What do you get when the ultimate helicopter mom and the ultimate gold digger go head to head? You get a pretty spectacular book!

Laura is a true mama bear who cannot let go… her obsession with her only son borders on odd…Cherry grew up thinking she deserved so much more… and she will stop at nothing to get what she feels she deserves…. so who will be left standing at the end… the mom or the girlfriend?

The beginning of this book was a definite slow burn…. watching these two equally unlikable women manipulate each other and Daniel… was quite entertaining…. as a mother who has sons I tried to empathize with Laura…. but the woman just went WAY. TOO. fAR! I actually had more sympathy for Cherry during this book, there were times I truly felt she loved Daniel, maybe?

About halfway through, this book takes a crazy turn…. and the speed absolutely picks up…. I couldn’t wait to find out what woman did what next, it was crazy! Poor Daniel, he was basically screwed no matter what happened…. he should’ve locked them in a room and let them battle it out and then take off to San Tropez….

This book is proof positive that you can like a book and not like the characters…. because even though Laura and Cherry were terribly unlikable they were extremely well developed…. by the end of this book I felt as though if I had run into either of these women walking down the street I would know who they were… then head quickly in the other direction!

Highly recommend! A crazy ride with a fresh approach and fabulously developed characters….

4 charming stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a fun young adult contemporary with the unusual setting of a southern swamp….. this book is classified as a romantic suspense, however I read several reviews before reading this that said it was heavier on the romance than the suspense…. so I went into this expecting a lot of romance and not so much suspense, sometimes expectations are everything….. The romance was charming and sweet, but I found the suspense more than satisfying….

Willow is the new girl in town, who just so happens to live next-door to the hottest guy in school….Beau is the boy who has dated all the girls, but never cared about any of them, until Willow…. i’m sure you’re thinking, I’ve read this before…. but there were several things about this book that made it unique and fresh….

The setting of the Georgian swamp I found really unusual and fun…. from crazy granny feeding the alligators to the creepy woods surrounding the bog….. it was really a fabulous backdrop for the story…. I also appreciated the positive relationships between the teenagers and their parents/grandparents….

There also was a serial killer in this book…. Luring girls out to the swamp and killing them, girls who all happened to be ex girlfriends of Beau…. there were some pretty creepy parts of this book chasing killers through the swamp…. I think if there were a serial killer roaming in the swamps I would stay clear, but that’s just me…. interesting mystery, and I definitely did not see the ending to that coming….

The only thing I wish was that the characters were a little better developed, along with their relationship…. it was sweet, but I just wanted a little bit more….

If you enjoy young adult contemporary I‘d definitely recommend this, it is fun and unique…. it is also clean, so I don’t see why it would not be appropriate for younger teens as well….

Before We Were Yours – Sunday Swaps

Before We Were Yours

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 6 wonderful stars

Two families, generations apart, are forever changed by a heartbreaking injustice in this poignant novel, inspired by a true story, for readers of Orphan Trainand The Nightingale.

Memphis, 1939. Twelve-year-old Rill Foss and her four younger siblings live a magical life aboard their family’s Mississippi River shantyboat. But when their father must rush their mother to the hospital one stormy night, Rill is left in charge—until strangers arrive in force. Wrenched from all that is familiar and thrown into a Tennessee Children’s Home Society orphanage, the Foss children are assured that they will soon be returned to their parents—but they quickly realize that the truth is much darker. At the mercy of the facility’s cruel director, Rill fights to keep her sisters and brother together—in a world of danger and uncertainty.

Aiken, South Carolina, present day. Born into wealth and privilege, Avery Stafford seems to have it all: a successful career as a federal prosecutor, a handsome fiancé, and a lavish wedding on the horizon. But when Avery returns home to help her father weather a health crisis, a chance encounter leaves her with uncomfortable questions—and compels her to take a journey through her family’s long-hidden history, on a path that will ultimately lead either to devastation or redemption.

Based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country—Wingate’s riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong.

**If you think this sounds familiar, it is probably because Berit has already reviewed it.  To see her review, you can go to Berit’s Review.  Thank you Berit for making me read a book that i probably would never have picked up 😘**

This book was just wonderful, i thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audio book, expertly narrated by Emily Rankin & Catherine Taber.

I try not to read the blurb on books that i have been recommended as i tent to be put off, so as normal i went in to this one blind.

It wasn’t until i had got about halfway through that i realized that it is based on a true story!!!!!

This story is loosely based around the story of Georgia Tann, The Tennessee Children’s Home Society, and her involvement in the kidnapping, and child trafficking of hundreds of children.

Often mothers still heavy with sedation were told that the baby they had just delivered had died, or were just made to sign a paper, not really knowing that they were signing away their child.

Other ways of stealing children, well just taking them from your front porch was a normal occurrence!

This woman used to advertise the children in the papers as a “Live Christmas Present” or something equally as disturbing, but the thing is, people loved her, they saw a woman helping poor little orphans out, they didn’t see that behind closed doors the children were being beaten and physically/sexually abused.

In fact she was loved so much that movie stars and “well to do” people used to get children from her, the move star Joan Crawford actually got her 2 children (twins) from Georgia Tann at the Childrens home.

To this day some of the children that were taken from their parents have never found their families again, that is just so sad.

Even though this was a sad story to read, the way that the author writes was like pure poetry on the pages, and i loved it!

Sins & Needles – Sunday Swaps

Sins & Needles

Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

4 dark brooding stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents’ latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen.

Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

SO my blog partner V and I have decided to do a Sunday swap…. we each recommended a book to one another that was a little out of our comfort zone this was my pick from Miss V…. this was not so much out of my comfort zone, but out of my current zone…. it was a dark romance and as of late I have not read as much romance as I used to…. I’m really on a huge thriller kick…. however I still love the love! And this book definitely had a dark edge to it, so I got my thriller needs met….

Ellie returns to the only home she has ever really known….. determined to live an honest law abiding life…. Ellie was raised by grifters and that is really the only way she really knows….. Ellie is carrying around a lot of scars both inside and outside from this life…. and really wants to go legit….. after returning home Ellie runs into Camden, the boy who had a mad crush on her in high school, the boy she would not give the time of day….. of course he is now super hot and super successful…. I’m sure you see where this is going? Or maybe not…. because things go sideways real quick!

This book definitely kept me entertained throughout…. I listened late into the night and never wanted to press the pause button….. don’t really want to say too much… but these characters took me on a crazy ride….

I felt as though this book was the perfect blend of romance and thrills…. however if you are not a romance fan I’d stay away…. on a steam scale of 1-10 I’d give it a Six!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

My only problem with this book was Ellie herself…. the girl came home to get on the straight and narrow and within a day she was off that road… I just really couldn’t get a handle on her… I didn’t understand a lot of her past actions either, like why did she hunt down Javier? I never understood how that was going to hurt anybody…. she unquestionably has a lot of room for some character growth…. fortunately she did redeem herself a bit in the end….

I would recommend this book for people who enjoy romance with a Darkside and some thrills mixed in💗

PS: this book ends on a huge cliffhanger, apparently there are two more books in this series that I will need to get to sooner than later, so many books so little time!

🎧🎧🎧 Audiobook narration also owns 4 stars …. Veronica Den did a wonderful job with all her female voices, however the male voices were a bit goofy at best …. kind of tough to swoon over a guy when his voice makes him sound like a big goofball!

Surprise Me – Coming Soon

Surprise Me

Arriving on shelves February 13, 2018

Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella

4.5 laugh out loud stars 😂 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

After being together for ten years, Sylvie and Dan have all the trimmings of a happy life and marriage; they have a comfortable home, fulfilling jobs, beautiful twin girls, and communicate so seamlessly, they finish each other’s sentences. However, a trip to the doctor projects they will live another 68 years together and panic sets in. They never expected “until death do us part” to mean seven decades.

In the name of marriage survival, they quickly concoct a plan to keep their relationship fresh and exciting: they will create little surprises for each other so that their (extended) years together will never become boring. But in their pursuit to execute Project Surprise Me, mishaps arise and secrets are uncovered that start to threaten the very foundation of their unshakable bond. When a scandal from the past is revealed that question some important untold truths, they begin to wonder if they ever really knew each other after all.

Sophie Kinsella is one of my absolute favorite authors…. i’ve read every book in the Shopaholic Series and absolutely adored Becky throughout…. what I love so much about her books are her fabulous female MC’s and Sylvie was no exception…. strong, relatable, fun, self-deprecating, and a little out of touch with reality…. i’ve read so many twisty thrillers as of late and this was just the perfect pallet cleanser!

After Sylvie and Dan are told by their doctor that they will probably live to be 100…. they both start to panic, how can we keep our marriage fresh and fabulous for another 68 years? Sylvie and Dan decide to try to “surprise“ each other in order to keep their marriage on track…. soMe of Sylvie and her BFF Tilda‘s antics in trying to come up with “surprises“ left me laughing so hard I had tears coming down my face(I think my kids thought I had gone mad)…..

Along with fabulous female main characters and tear inducing laughter….Miss Kinsella always has wonderful female relationships and almost too good to be true men in her books….Tilda was a truly fabulous BFF and Dan really had the patience of a saint….

The only “surprising“ part of this book is it had a bit of a more serious tone to it in parts… Sylvie, relationship with her mother, and her deceased father took on a very serious tone…. and admittedly I found it a little disturbing that Silvie still called her parents mommy and daddy…. in the end I thought this part of the book was done well and tied all the other pieces in the book together….

Absolutely recommend for a fun, fluffy, laugh out read… with some depth….

*** thank you too Net Galley and the publisher for a copy of this book ***

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Book rating: ☆☆☆☆•5

Narration rating: ☆☆☆☆•5

From the acclaimed author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans, a moving new novel that subtly reimagines our world and time in a haunting story of friendship and love.

As a child, Kathy – now thirty-one years old – lived at Hailsham, a private school in the scenic English countryside where the children were sheltered from the outside world, brought up to believe that they were special and that their well-being was crucial not only for themselves but for the society they would eventually enter. Kathy had long ago put this idyllic past behind her, but when two of her Hailsham friends come back into her life, she stops resisting the pull of memory.

And so, as her friendship with Ruth is rekindled, and as the feelings that long ago fueled her adolescent crush on Tommy begin to deepen into love, Kathy recalls their years at Hailsham. She describes happy scenes of boys and girls growing up together, unperturbed–even comforted–by their isolation. But she describes other scenes as well: of discord and misunderstanding that hint at a dark secret behind Hailsham’s nurturing facade. With the dawning clarity of hindsight, the three friends are compelled to face the truth about their childhood–and about their lives now.

A tale of deceptive simplicity, Never Let Me Go slowly reveals an extraordinary emotional depth and resonance–and takes its place among Kazuo Ishiguro’s finest work.

Wow this book is going to be really hard to review.

This is one that you really have to read yourself, don’t read any reviews and go in blind!

It is quite a slow read, and then it builds up, and you find that you can’t stop reading as you have to know………

The story in itself is about 3 children and how their lives are in a type of bording school known as Hailsham.
Tommy is a boy that no one really bother with as he has quite a temper, that is apart from Kathy who has always been friends with him, and Ruth, who’s stories are sometimes a little bit “out there”

Kathy is now 31 and is telling the story and is looking back fondly on her memories at Hailsham, but then the story starts to take a more sinister edge, and we are then allowed to look at the school for what it is, and why the children are so special.

A shuddering 4•5 ☆ read.

A Different Blue – Featured on Flashback Friday

A Different Blue

A Different Blue by Amy Harmon

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stunning stars

Blue Echohawk doesn’t know who she is. She doesn’t know her real name or when she was born. Abandoned at two and raised by a drifter, she didn’t attend school until she was ten years old. At nineteen, when most kids her age are attending college or moving on with life, she is just a senior in high school. With no mother, no father, no faith, and no future, Blue Echohawk is a difficult student, to say the least. Tough, hard and overtly sexy, she is the complete opposite of the young British teacher who decides he is up for the challenge, and takes the troublemaker under his wing.

This is the story of a nobody who becomes somebody. It is the story of an unlikely friendship, where hope fosters healing and redemption becomes love. But falling in love can be hard when you don’t know who you are. Falling in love with someone who knows exactly who they are and exactly why they can’t love you back might be impossible.

Wow – this book was completely different to what I thought it was going to be, and I loved it.

A little girl is dumped in the passenger seat of a truck by her mother, the truck is not hers, and the woman just left her.

The truck belonged to a man called Jimmy Echohawk, he did not go to the police, even when he found out what happened to the woman, instead he raised the little girl as his own.

Blue Echohawk is a beautiful young girl, with issues. She is the local “skank” boys use her for a booty call, and she lets them. Blue is also very talented, she makes wood carvings, and they are good enough to sell, which she does at her local diner where she works.

School is just a mundane bore to her, and she tries to cause as much attention to herself as she can, even though she doesn’t like it, it is attention after all !

Enter Mr Darcy Wilson!

Mr Wilson is the History teacher and Blue is fasinated by him, he even inspires some of her work.

This is quite a slow paced book, and I understand how some would call it slow and boring.

This book doesn’t rush, Amy Harmon writes beautifully about friendship, trust, love and loss, and she does it at a pace that you become entwined with the characters.

A beautifully written 5☆ read narrated by the always amazing Tavia Gilbert.
